The Saito FA-182T (often designated as the FA-182TD) is a high-performance, horizontally opposed twin-cylinder four-stroke glow engine designed for large-scale RC model aircraft. It is widely recognised for its dual-plug system (two plugs per cylinder) and dual-carburetor setup, which enhance reliability and provide a distinct, realistic sound.

The FA-182T is built using AAC (Aluminium piston, Aluminium cylinder, Chrome plated) construction to maintain a high power-to-weight ratio.

    Displacement 29.98cc (1.82 cu in)
    Bore 28.2 mm (x2)
    Stroke 24.0 mm (x2)
Power Output 2.5 HP to 2.8 HP
    Weight ~1,040g (Engine only)
    RPM Range 2,000 – 10,000 RPM
Recommended Props 15×8 to 17×8 (can swing up to 18×6)
Fuel Type Glow fuel (10%–30% Nitro with synthetic or Caster oil)

Single-Throw Crankshaft: Utilizes a design similar to full-sized radial engines for simplicity and efficiency.
Dual Carburetor’s: Includes twin-needle carburetors with velocity stacks, allowing individual tuning for each cylinder.
Dual-Plug System: Two glow plugs per cylinder improve idling stability and combustion. Note that users often only need to heat the two rear plugs for starting.
Odd-Fire Timing: As a flat twin with a single-throw crank, it fires at uneven intervals, creating its signature “futile rotation” sound.

Production Heritage: Saito Seisakusho, originally a steam engine manufacturer founded in 1959, transitioned to four-stroke model engines in 1979.
Model Lineage: The FA-182TD shares its internal structure and design philosophy with earlier twins like the FA-100T.
Applications: It was specifically marketed as the “perfect” choice for 1/4 scale models such as the Sig Spacewalker, Midwest AT-6, and Hangar 9 Super Cub.
Legacy: While Saito has shifted focus toward large-volume FG (petrol/gasoline) engines for lower fuel costs, the 182 glow model remains a staple for enthusiasts seeking the specific performance and sound of a large nitro twin.
